On Raja Parba, Keonjhar SP's Surprise Brings Smiles To Police Families

Keonjhar: A study carried out by Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPRD) reveals that around 90 per cent of police personnel are overworked with work time exceeding eight hours while 73 per cent hardly get a week off and are even called for emergency services, be it holidays or festivals. The whole country enjoys these occasions, only because the men in khaki uniform are guarding them despite being away from family members. Unlike the regular affair, Keonjhar Superintendent of Police (SP) on this Raja Parba set an example by coming up with a unique idea to ensure that the families of police personnel in the district are not deprived of the festivity.

SP Jay Narayan Pankaj guaranteed that even though the cops are duty-bound, they don't miss to see the smiles on the faces of their family members.

What came as a surprise for police personnel this year is the SP has made special arrangements at the Reserve Police Ground and the surrounding campus for Raja celebrations. Beautiful swings have been put up decorated with flowers for the merry makers. This apart, varieties of traditionally prepared cakes including Poda Pitha, Kakera, Arisa Pitha, Laddu, Jalebi, and Raja Paan have been kept for the police families and even for the poor children living in the vicinity.

"My father is a cop and whenever he is on duty during festivals and special occasions, the whole family misses him, especially during Kali Puja, Durga Puja and Raja. But not this time. We are so happy to see this arrangement by the SP," expressed a proud daughter.

"I have been staying in the colony since 1990 but never witnessed such a celebration with family. It's really a nice gesture and we are all so happy," said another woman.

Really, such surprises melt hearts.
