Bhubaneswar: Today was a special day for ruling Biju Janata Dal as it completed eleven years in power; observed the 95th birth anniversary of legendary leader Biju Patnaik coinciding with Panchayati Raj diwas.

As part of state-wide functions organized here, BJD leaders came forward in support of party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Though the party was mired in controversy over multi-crore mining scam and dal scam, the party leaders termed the Opposition attacks as conspiracy to malign Naveen’s clean image.

Terming legendry leader Biju Patnaik as the greatest leader of the century, BJD MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra said, the Opposition’s efforts to defame the government would turn futile and they won’t succeed to smear the clean image of Naveen Patnaik.

Describing Patnaik as a great "warrior" in politics, party’s chief strategist Pyari Mohan Mohapatra said the chief minister`s strength was his popularity and clean image. "Opposition parties make wild allegations against Patnaik and they will not succeed," he added.

Earlier in the day after garlanding Biju Patnaik, Naveen said, agriculture development and industrialization should go hand in hand in order to achieve sustainable growth. In view of this, we should accommodate technology for economic growth otherwise our future generations wouldn’t forgive us.

Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Minister Dr Damodar Rout said, the state has progressed in all sectors in the last eleven years during BJDs regime. However, Centre’s apathy towards the state has posed hurdle in the development of the state in some areas. He called upon the party workers to unite and fight against Centre’s apathy to strengthen Naveen-led government.

"The Opposition conspiracy against chief minister will be defeated if we fight unitedly," Dr Damodar Rout said adding the state government would serve the people under the leadership of Naveen.

While BJD criticized the Opposition Congress and BJP, the Opposition also retaliated.

“This government has gone backward instead of taking the development works forward,” senior Congress leader Narsingh Mishra said.

Notably, the BJD government drew flak from the Opposition Congress and BJP for the multi-crore mining scam, the recent pulses scam as beneficiaries were poor children and pregnant women across the state.

On Panchayati Raj diwas, apart from state-wide celebrations, a mini marathon was organized here. People from all walks of life participated in the 15-km run from Forest Park to KIIT University campus.
