Ollywood mourns the loss of beloved ‘Dada’ and melody king Abhijit Majumdar

Odisha’s music fraternity is in deep mourning following the demise of renowned playback singer and popular ‘Melody King’ Abhijit Majumdar on Sunday. After a prolonged five-month battle with illness, the celebrated singer passed away in the morning while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. He was 54.

Abhijit’s untimely demise has left the Ollywood industry and his countless admirers stunned. Fondly known as ‘Dada’, he was not just a singer but an emotion for Odia music lovers.

According to doctors, his health condition had deteriorated significantly in recent days, and he suffered a cardiac complication on Sunday morning. Despite all medical efforts, he could not be revived.

As news of his passing spread, his relatives, colleagues, and fans rushed to the hospital, struggling to come to terms with the loss. His mortal remains were later taken to Cuttack’s MRR Studio, where his musical journey had begun.

Artists, music directors, and fans gathered to pay their last respects, many humming his iconic songs with tear-filled eyes.

Later, his body was taken to his residence, where people from all walks of life—neighbours, political leaders, and admirers—bid an emotional farewell. Though Abhijit Majumdar is no longer physically present, his soulful voice will continue to live on in every heartbeat and every note of Odia music.

“We used to watch videos of Kishore Da (the legendary singer Kishore Kumar) in Bollywood. We had never seen him live, but we have enjoyed his versatile and lively singing. Similarly, Dada (Abhijit Majumdar) was such a person who had been enjoying his soulful singing,” noted Odia actor Anubhav Mohanty expressed, while speaking to OTV.
