Bhubaneswar: BJP’s Ashwini Vaishnaw, who has been named as Rajya Sabha candidate from Odisha is the richest among the candidates who are all most likely to get elected to the Upper House in the upcoming by-elections scheduled to be held on July 5.

As per the individual affidavits submitted by the three candidates, Vaishnaw is the richest having movable and immovable assets worth Rs 11.80 crore and Rs 1.27 crore in the name of his wife.

In his affidavit, Vaishnaw has showed an annual income of Rs 2.06 crore in the 2017-18 financial year which comes down to Rs 17 lakh per month. While his wife’s annual income is Rs 31.65 lakh, Vaishnaw’s house in Ahmedabad and Gurugram is valued at Rs 3.45 crore.
It is pertinent to mention here that Vaishaw is presently director of four companies while his wife is director in two companies.

In his self sworn-in affidavit, BJD’s Rajya Sabha candidate Amar Patnaik has declared total assets worth Rs 5.40 crore while his wife’s total assets have been valued at Rs 4.16 crore. Patnaik’s annual income is around Rs 18.53 lakh.

Patnaik has also mentioned about a case registered against him for allegedly misbehaving with a woman. He was also summoned by the court in connection with the case registered under IPC sections 354 and 294. Though he had moved Supreme Court challenging the case, the court had rejected his plea.

With total assets worth Rs 2.63 crore BJD’s Sasmit Patra is the poorest among the three. In his affidavit, Patra has declared total assets worth Rs 80 lakhs in the name of his wife, while his annual income was Rs 25.13 lakh in the 2017-18 financial year.
