In a remarkable demonstration of both stamina and endurance, Sumit Singh, a young man from Rourkela, has set a new benchmark in fitness and running. Walking 48 hours on a treadmill, he not only showcased his physical stamina but also displayed extraordinary mental strength.
Assisted by his family, Sumit embarked on this 48-hour journey at Rourkela’s Civic Centre, where he walked relentlessly, taking only a brief 5-minute break every hour.
Throughout the 48-hour challenge, Sumit walked without rest, only stopping for five minutes each hour, as per the set schedule. The dedication required to complete this physically taxing challenge was evident, with Sumit maintaining his pace and perseverance, demonstrating remarkable willpower.
“If someone is mentally strong, then this feat can be achieved. We didn’t undergo any extensive training for this challenge. Experience plays a crucial role, as we are professionals and have been running for years. When I set my previous Guinness record, I drew motivation from that achievement. I aimed to extend my limits, starting from 12 hours, then moving to 24, and now to 48 hours. I wasn’t completely satisfied with my 12-hour record, so I set my sights on the 48-hour walk. If I achieve this, the record will stay with Rourkela, Odisha,” said Sumit Singh, the man behind the record.
International Recognition Expected
The entire walk was filmed, and Sumit’s achievement is expected to be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records for official recognition. His commitment to this challenge has garnered attention, not only locally but also internationally, and could soon see him earning a place among the world’s record-holders.
“The goal for Sumit was to walk for 48 hours, covering at least 200 kilometers. The challenge included a 5-minute break every hour. For example, after walking for 4 hours, he got a 20-minute break, which he used to eat, rest, or use the restroom. He made full use of the time and continued his walk without losing momentum,” said Sanjay Singh, Sumit’s father.
Sumit Singh’s 48-hour walk is a true testament to human endurance and determination. His dedication to this incredible challenge is set to inspire others to push their own limits, making his achievement a remarkable one for Rourkela and beyond. The submission of his record to the Guinness Book of World Records further cements this feat as an extraordinary accomplishment.
