Bhubaneswar: The Puri beach has received the 'Blue Flag' certification which will further boost its tourism potential by making it cleaner and environment-friendly with international standard amenities for tourists.

The stretch of the beach from Gandhi Ghat to Hotel Mayfair has been identified to be developed as per the Blue Flag standards.

Puri Collector Balwant Singh along with the director of Coastal Zone Management Project, Susant Nanda and engineers of contractor agency among others visited the beach and took a stock of the requirements and preparations at the proposed site.

The construction of boundary from Gandhi Ghat to Hotel Mayfair will begin from Sunday. A Bangalore-based company has reportedly been given the tender for the construction work.

A beach needs to comply with at least 33 pre-requisites to achieve the Blue Flag tag which include availability of toilets, changing rooms, first aid centres, security for senior citizens, CCTV surveillance, 24x7 security arrangements, parking lots,  plastic-free locality and proper waste management system.
