Berhampur: Odisha's maiden open air scrap park was inaugurated at the Berhampur ITI campus on Friday.

The scrap park that features more than 20 sculptures made out of debris of building materials and other metal scraps was thrown open for the public by Masood Hussaini, the Chief of TATA Aerospace and Defence.

The function was graced by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Odisha Skill Development and Technical Education, Sanjay Kumar Singh and the Chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority, Subroto Bagchi.

Sharing his views on this park, Bagchi said, "It is a glaring example of the 'Skilled In Odisha' initiative that the State has been promoting among youths."

"Mr. Hussaini of TATA Aerospace was quite pleased with the efforts of the students and he assured us that TATA will collaborate with us in aviation and avionics sector. And I hope the foundation stone for this project will be laid at this ITI in Berhampur," added Bagchi.

A girl studying in the fitter trade of the ITI said, "We have learnt a lot from these scrap sculptors. The waste materials shouldn't be thrown away. They can be used in an aesthetic way too."

"The park looks great in the evening with its decorative lightings and all," added the girl student.

Sibasis Panda, another student of the ITI said, "We have named it, Mind Heart and Hand Park and I hope that people will come here in large numbers and appreciate our efforts," added Panda.

It may be noted that the ITI at Berhampur has already made it to the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records for making giant replicas of a guitar and a giraffe, respectively from scrap materials.

Recently, the students taking inspiration from a fishing lure sculpture in America had made a giant fishing lure measuring 22 feet in height from scrap materials obtained from a demolished building inside their campus.
