Odisha’s braveheart girl to get ‘Jeevan Raksha Padak’ from President
Kendrapara: Mamata Dalai of Kendrapara district will be bestowed with the prestigious ‘Jeevan Raksha Padak’ by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on Independence Day in New Delhi.
It is pertinent to mention here that Mamata Dalai (then 6) had saved her elder sister from the jaws of a crocodile on April 6, 2017.
Mamta and her sister Asanti had gone to a nearby pond in Dangamala village under Rajnagar block in Kendrapara to take bath when a crocodile pounced upon the latter.
Without fearing for her life, Mamata pulled her sister from the crocodile’s jaws.
Mamata received the National Bravery award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was also felicitated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for her courage.
Moreover, the Kendrapara district administration on Friday handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh from the Rashtrapati Bhawan to Mamata.
“Today, a cheque of Rs 1 lakh has been handed over to Mamata. The kid’s bravery is certainly an inspiration for all,” said Basant Behera, Additional District Magistrate, Kendrapara.
