OdishaCM Mohan Majhi will on Friday inaugurate the state’s first Watermanship and Life Guard Institute along with the seventh edition of the Konark Eco Retreat, marking a significant push towards strengthening tourism infrastructure and emergency response capabilities in the state.

Watermanship Institute Near Ramachandi Peeth

The Watermanship and Life Guard Institute has been constructed near Ramachandi Peeth by the State Fire and Emergency Services Department at Rs 12 crore. The institute aims to enhance professional capacity in water-based rescue operations and lifesaving skills.

The facility comprises barracks with accommodation for 100 trainees, an officers’ mess, administrative offices, and a canteen. Training modules at the centre will include swimming, power boat operation, sea and still-water safety, scuba diving, and deep-water diving.

Officials Review Inauguration Preparations

Ahead of the inauguration, Puri District Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida and Fire and Emergency Services DIG Umashankar Dash reviewed the final arrangements at the site.

Konark Eco Retreat to Offer Luxury Seaside Experience

The Konark Eco Retreat, organised annually by the State Tourism Department near the Kushabhadra river mouth, will feature 70 luxury tent cottages this season. The retreat offers tourists a unique seaside stay experience during Odisha’s winter tourism season.

Dignitaries To Attend Twin Events

Apart from the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, along with other senior officials and dignitaries, will attend the twin inauguration ceremonies.

Institute To Function At National Level: DIG

Speaking on the occasion, Fire and Emergency Services DIG Umashankar Dash said the institute has been developed with an investment of Rs 12 crore by the Odisha Government and is expected to function as a national-level training centre.

“The Watermanship and Life Guard Institute will play a crucial role in training personnel for lifeguard duties, water sports safety, beach safety, and in upgrading the skills of Fire Services personnel and lifesaving teams,” he said.
