Sonepur: Odisha’s Ehsaas Hota has been selected as the first and the only player from Odisha in the 17-member Indian team to take part in the World Taekwondo Chamspionship President's Cup beginning on February 28 in Iran. He will also take part in the 30th Fajr Open Taekwondo Championship in Iran.

Players from as many as 46 countries will compete in the elite martial art championships of World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).

While the President's Cup will kick off on February 28 and end on March 3 at Olympic Sports Square in the Iranian island of Kish, 30th Fajr Open will be organised on March 4 and 5.

Earlier in May 2018, Ehsaas had won two gold medals at 2nd Kathmandu International Taekwondo Championship in Nepal. Not only this, Ehsas brought laurels for Odisha by wining gold medals at several national Taekwondo championships on nine different occasions.

Ehsas is optimistic to give his best shot at the championships and dreams of making it to the Olympics.

“I am very happy to be selected as the first player from Odisha in last 37 years to represent the country in the World Taekwondo Chamspionship. I will be participating in the 54 kg category during the event,” said Ehsaas.

Amid concerns that talented players like Ehsas have to struggle despite winning consistently and creating records, Sonepur administration has now assured to provide him financial assistance.

Urging the State and the Central government to help Ehsas, Mukesh Kumar Panda, a Taekwondo player said, “It’s not possible for a player to spend lakhs of rupees while participating in tournaments, so if he can get some finanicial assistance, it will boost his morale and help him perform better.”

Sonepur Collector Madhusudan Mishra said the district administration will always help in providing financial and moral support at their level. “He will be allowed to use all kinds of infrastructure available with us for his preparations,” said Mishra.
