Despite repeatedly informing company authorities regarding their grievances, the workers reportedly received no response, prompting them to escalate the matter through public agitation.

Over 500 Labourers Affected

According to reports, over 500 labourers from Odisha had travelled to the cement factory in Andhra Pradesh with the expectation of good salaries, accommodation, and food. However, the workers stated that they did not receive the promised salary, accommodation, or meals, leading to dissatisfaction and unrest among the workforce.

Police Intervention and Ongoing Protest

Andhra Pradesh police intervened and held discussions with the factory authorities on Friday, assuring the agitated labourers that they would receive their salaries on time. Nevertheless, the labourers continued their protest at the time of reporting, insisting on a written confirmation of the payment and other promised facilities before ending their demonstration.

Administrative Oversight and Labour Concerns

Officials from the Odisha administration have noted that many labourers do not register or inform authorities when moving to another state for work, resulting in a lack of information and oversight.

While the Odisha government has several schemes and facilities in place for labourers, including designated authorities at the block level, alleged lapses in the functioning of these officials have reportedly caused difficulties for workers, forcing them to seek employment opportunities outside the state.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about worker rights, wage payment, and administrative coordination for labourers migrating across state borders.
