In a major anti-corruption action, OAS officer Banamali Satpathy, posted as Executive Officer of Belaguntha NAC, was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a government employee.
According to sources, the accused allegedly demanded the bribe from a staffer in exchange for the release of his arrear salary and Last Pay Certificate (LPC), which were required for his transfer to a new posting. The complainant, unable to access his dues and facing delays, reported the matter to Vigilance authorities.
Acting swiftly, the Odisha Vigilance team caught Satpathy at Balipadar Bus Stop while accepting the money. The entire amount of Rs 25,000 was recovered from his possession. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to the accused, focusing on potential disproportionate assets, said sources.
A formal case has been registered under Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 14/2025 under Section 7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigations are ongoing, and further details are expected as the probe progresses.
