Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to switch to online teaching-learning mode to facilitate classes for Plus II second year students amid the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.

"It has been decided to conduct online classes for students, especially for Class-XII students who are now at their homes due to the lockdown," informed Director of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, Brundaban Behera.

In a letter to the principals of all government and non-government aided higher secondary schools across the State, Behera has directed principals to submit concept-wise course materials to be used for online classes of Class-XII students.

The principals have been requested to discuss with faculties of all streams- Arts, Science and Commerce and find out if quality digital learning materials/videos are available with them for different subjects of Class-XII as prescribed by CHSE (Odisha) syllabus.

“If such materials are there, they may send to us through our e-mail- dhse.odisha@amail.com as soon as possible by May 20 2020,” he said adding that those materials will be scrutinised by an expert group and sent for use by the students.

“Hope, you will encourage your persons to come forward for this assignment. We solicit your cooperation in this regard in the larger interest of our children,” he added.

On the other hand, the State school and mass education department has initiated measures to facilitate e-learning for students from Class I to Class X in 24 districts through Madhu app and EDUSAT. The department has roped in Microsoft to provide technical support in this regard.

According to sources, the e-learning facilities will be made available in 10 schools across 24 districts in the State. About 250 students from each such school can directly discuss about their studies with their teachers with the help of the Microsoft team.

In a related development, school and mass education minister Samir Dash will chair a high-level meeting today to decide about commencement of matric examination evaluation process. While schools are scheduled to open on June 17, the evaluation of answer sheets is held up due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
