Kandhamal: 'Obstacles do not matter, duty does' - Born with such an ideology, a teacher in Kandhamal district set an example for others when he risked his life in the line of duty to attend I-day celebrations on Thursday. The teacher Lalu Mallick who is posted at Badali Primary School under Gunjibadi Gram Panchayat in Sarangagarh Tehsil of the district was seen crossing a flooded river using a rope to reach his school.

Reportedly, all the locals while going to Gunjibadi from Bagadi and vice-versa usually prefer to walk through the Bagadi river which remains almost dry throughout the year except the rainy season.

With a bridge situated almost 10 kms away from the place, Mallick also stuck to his usual route to rush to his school from Gunjibadi to attend the Independence Day celebrations yesterday. The situation was however unlike everyday as Mallick had to haul himself across the fast-flowing neck-deep river water by using iron wires attached to trees on both sides of the river.

No sooner than a video of the incident went viral on various social networking sites, admirations started pouring in for Mallick for his sincerity. However, a section of people have also raised concerns over the situation in the area.
