Odisha school lends rail connectivity dream of children an artistic reality

Malkangiri: Butiguda Upper Primary School at Malkangiri district headquarters town is unlike any other. While for the cut-off areas of Malkangiri, railway connectivity is still a dream; the Butiguda Upper Primary School has painted the classrooms to resemble like a train in a bid to ensure that the children never feel the void.

The children belonging to the tribal community have never seen or been on a train and the painted classrooms do their bit to make students experience the ambience & feel of railway coaches.

One of the students of the school said, “I never saw a train and it would be better to see an actual train in our region.”

The children are excited to study in the newly painted classrooms which has been named as Malyabanta Express.

School Headmaster, Prakash Nayak said “The painting of the train in the walls imbibes a vision of the object in the mind of the children. Earlier, they were seeing the picture but weren’t able to visualise anything specific. Now with the painting of the train on the walls, they have started to visualise something like a train. This new method of education has been effective for the children.”

The painting of the train on the walls is an effort under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
