Bhubaneswar: To give due attention to cases related to crimes against women and children, Odisha government on Monday sanctioned creation of 537 posts of sub-inspectors of police, official sources said.

"Chief Minister has directed the Staff Selection Commission to start recruitment process soon," an official said adding that Mahila and Sishu Desks have been set up in all the 537 police stations to deal with such cases.

Mahila and Sishu Desks could be activated with appointment of new SIs of Police in all the police stations, he said. Many cases relating to women and children could not get proper attention of the police due to inadequate staff in police stations, he said.

According to an earlier decision, one police officer at least in the rank of SI would be in-charge of Mahila and Sishu Desk in all the police stations. One woman police personnel would be part of the Desk, they said.
