Odisha rice millers threaten to pull out of paddy procurement

Berhampur: With rice millers in Ganjam yet to receive their dues pending for paddy procured since 2015, the administration is in a fix.

According to sources, the millers have threatened not to procure paddy from the farmers this Kharif season if the pending amount is not cleared by the administration.

“It is disappointing that millers are yet to receive the remaining Rs 40 crore from the administration,” Ashok Mohanty, president, Ganjam District Rice Miller Association said.

On the other hand, the Ganjam District Collector, Vijay Amruta Kulange chaired a meeting to review the paddy procurement process.

“We have decided keep the procurement process smooth. We will make an effort to release payments within 24 hours so that no farmer needs to contact the distress cell for payment-related delays,” Kulange said.
