Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a spike in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the last 24 hours with the detection of 91 new COVID-19 cases and one more fatalities.

The total number of positive cases in the State now stands at 828 including 627 active cases, 196 recoveries and five deaths, according to the State Health and Family Welfare Department.

Out of the 91 fresh positive cases detected in the last 24 hours, Bhadrak reported 28 cases, Balasore 17, Ganjam 15, Cuttack 12, Puri seven, Keonjhar four, Khurda three, Bolangir two and one each from Kendrapara, Sambalpur (new case) and Sundergarh.

The fresh case of fatality was reported from Ganjam, which has been witnessing a massive influx of migrants post Lockdown 3.0, taking the total number of deaths in the district to three.

 

District-Wise Details Of The Fresh 91 COVID-19 Cases:

Bhadrak (28) - All in quarantine centres, 17 Surat, eight WB, one Hyderabad and two Maharashtra returnees

Puri (7) - All in quarantine centres, three West Bengal, three Surat returnees and one local contact

Ganjam (15) - 14 in quarantine centres, all Surat returnees and 1 local contact

Kendrapara (1) - A Surat returnee in quarantine centre

Bolangir (2) - All in quarantine centres, Surat returnees

Sundergarh (1) - Andhra Pradesh returnee in quarantine centre

Balasore (17) - 16 in quarantine centres, 2 Surat, 3 WB, 10 Hyderabad and 1 Maharashtra returnees while one local contact

Sambalpur (1) - In quarantine centre, Ahmedabad returnee

Ganjam accounted for the maximum number of COVID-19 cases in the State. The district has reported 292 cases in a span of just 16 days. Jajpur (121) and Balasore (119) are the two other states that have already cross 100-mark.

As many as 5,083 samples were examined for COVID-19 on Saturday. The total number of samples tested so far in the state stands at 91,223.
