Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure proper security in and around the Kalinga stadium during the men's Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police has decided to use drones for surveillance & traffic management during the tournament.

According to sources, there will be a restriction zone for flying drones near the stadium except for police, organisers and broadcast agencies. The drones equipped with high-resolution cameras will keep an eye on entry and exit points of the stadium along with the crowded areas. The hi-tech devices will also keep an eye on the traffic near the stadium.

"We will use high-definition drones mainly for a bird's eye view of the stadium and to keep a track of traffic near the stadium," Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said.

Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police has made extensive security arrangements at the stadium as the national camp of the Indian team members is underway and at the same time a renovation work is also in progress.

"We have made all the required security arrangements at the hotel where the Indian squad are staying. The team will always be escorted by police while travelling between the stadium and the hotel, "Mohanty added.

Wearing identity cards has also been made mandatory for everybody while entering the stadium, the Commissioner said.
