In a significant development, Odisha Police in Subarnapur district have cracked the murder case of a labourer after recovering his body buried underground, 11 days after his disappearance. The incident occurred under the Binika police station limits at Gulapada village.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash Mohanty, a resident of Gulapada village. On the 18th of the month, Prakash reportedly left home saying he was going for work but did not return. As days passed with no information about his whereabouts, suspicion grew within the family.
Wife Lodges Complaint
On 23rd December, Prakash’s wife, Banita Mohanty, approached the Binika police station, expressing suspicion that her husband had been murdered. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation from multiple angles.
Arrests Made, One Accused Absconding
During the course of the investigation, police recovered Prakash Mohanty’s body from beneath the soil in Gulapada. Three accused persons have been arrested in connection with the murder, while one accused is still absconding. The arrested individuals have been produced before the court.
"As per the latest reports, four persons are involved in the case. Out of them, three have been arrested, while one accused is still absconding. The hammer used in committing the crime has been seized,” said Pratap Tripathy, SDPO, Subarnapur.
The successful detection of the case within days of the complaint highlights the prompt action and investigative efforts of Binika Police. Further investigation is underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused and ensure justice for the victim’s family.
