Odisha Police officer dies while rescuing tourists from wild boar attack

A tragic incident occurred at Barunei in Khordha district on Sunday, where a police officer lost his life while attempting to rescue tourists trapped by a herd of wild boars.

According to reports, a group of five tourists had climbed a tree to save themselves after being chased by wild boars in the forest area near Barunei Hills. Upon receiving information, teams from the Fire Services Department, Forest Department, and local police rushed to the spot to carry out a rescue operation.

During the operation, one police personnel reportedly went missing while trying to drive away the wild boars. Later, authorities confirmed that the officer had died in the line of duty.

The stranded tourists were eventually rescued safely by the joint team. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many expressing grief over the death of the officer who sacrificed his life to save others.

Police have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the incident. The body of the deceased officer has been sent for post-mortem, and the district administration has expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

“A bunch of us friends had been to Barunei Hills to click pictures and make videos. However, a herd of wild boars came from nowhere and attacked us. The boar attacked me first and then my friend. Another friend was seriously injured after he fell down while trying to climb a tree,” shared Varun Kumar Sahu, one of the victims.
