Even as government officials across Odisha are observing Vigilance Awareness Week and taking pledges to maintain integrity and transparency in public service, a police officer in Koraput has been allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe.
According to Odisha Vigilance, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Narasingha Dora of B. Singhpur Police Station in Koraput district was apprehended on Tuesday along with a private individual, Sunadhara Amanatya, for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 40,000 in bribe from a complainant.
Reports said Dora, who was investigating a domestic violence case, had allegedly demanded the bribe to ‘help’ the complainant and threatened to take strict action against him if the payment was not made. Unable to bear the pressure, the complainant approached the Vigilance authorities, leading to a well-planned trap operation.
Both Dora and Amanatya were caught red-handed while receiving the tainted money, which has been recovered and seized in the presence of witnesses.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were launched at two locations linked to the ASI on suspicion of disproportionate assets. The Koraput Vigilance Police Station has registered a case (No. 33/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and an investigation is underway.
The incident has raised eyebrows as it occurred during Vigilance Awareness Week, a period when public servants are urged to reaffirm their commitment to a corruption-free administration.
