Odisha Plus 3 student offered lift; brutally raped, thrown off the terrace of four-storey building!

A new twist in the mysterious death of the Plus III female student in Paradip’s Tarinigada locality of Jagatsinghpur district emerged on Sunday, where her body was previously found below a four-storey building.

What was initially suspected to be a case of suicide is now being investigated as a case of rape and murder after new evidence emerged in connection with the case.

Police sources indicate that the victim, who had reportedly taken a lift from an outsider near Rahama, was brought to a rented house in Tarinigada on the intervening night. Subsequently, her bloodied and disrobed body was discovered early next morning beneath the building.

Crucial evidence recovered from inside the house — including the victim’s belongings and mobile phone — has helped establish her identity and shed light on the sequence of events. Investigators suspect she was assaulted inside the building and later pushed from the rooftop in an attempt to stage the incident as a suicide. Slippers allegedly placed on the terrace appear to have been arranged to support this false narrative.

The young woman had left home in the morning to meet a male friend near Sarala Temple locality. Following a heated argument, she had called her family to Rahama bus stand, asking to be picked up. After that, her phone had become unreachable, and she went incommunicado.

Investigators believe she later accepted a lift from a youth from Jharkhand and travelled to Paradip. The accused reportedly took her to a rented accommodation where several young men were already staying.

Police have detained eight individuals in connection with the case and are questioning a prime suspect identified as Singh. Authorities are now awaiting the postmortem report to confirm the exact cause of death.

The role of the male friend, possible links between the accused and the sequence of events leading to the crime, remain under investigation.

“We have detained around 7-8 persons and already interrogated them. The prime accused is in our custody, and we are questioning him to gather more information. A detailed probe to ascertain the exact cause behind the victim woman’s death and the circumstances leading to the mishap is underway,” Jagatsinghpur SP, Ankit Verma, had said earlier.

“We are still awaiting the post-mortem report,” SP Verma had added.
