Odisha observes International Yoga Day

Bhubaneswar: Along with the rest of the world, the fifth International Yoga Day was observed across Odisha on Friday, with yoga camps organised at several locations.

Poeple from all walks of life participated in yoga programmes at several places of the State. Governor Ganeshi Lal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice President Baijayant Panda participated at a session here where a large number of people also congregated to perform yoga asanas to mark the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor urged everyone to take up yoga to get inner peace. The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body, he added.

While King of Puri Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb also participated at a yoga programme in Bhubaneswar, Border Security Force (BSF) troopers also celebrated yoga day at Maoist-affected Malkangiri district of Odisha.

In a bid to mark the event, internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sand sculpture with the theme ‘Surya Namaskar’. He used around seven tonnes of sand to create sand art at the Puri beach.
