Khurda: A 15-year-old boy, who has been missing from Nirakarpur area in Khurda district for the last 13 days, was allegedly sold off by his relatives for Rs 4,000.

The incident came to light after a video purportedly showing the uncle and aunt of the minor boy confessing to have sold him went viral on social media.

According to sources, the minor boy, Satyanarayan Nayak, son of Subash Chandra Nayak of Gajapatinagar in Jatni had fled from his house on October 3. When the family members of the minor did not find him, they lodged a missing complaint with the local police.

“When I asked my relative, she said my son was in their house. However, we did not find him in their house in Nirakarpur. Later, they admitted that they sold off my son to a person in Jajpur,” father of the minor said.

In the viral video, the accused aunt is seen accepting that the minor was in their house for four days and as they didn’t have money, they sold him off to one Rajkishore Jena in Jajpur.

Police have detained the accused duo and are questioning them in connection with the incident. A team of Khurda Police also visited Jajpur, but could not trace the minor boy.

“A missing case has been registered and the accused uncle and aunt are being questioned. Further investigation is underway,” DCP Anup Sahu said.
