Bhubaneswar: With just two days to go before the 2019 Matriculation Examinations begins in earnest on February 22, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha has completed all preparations for the smooth conduct of examinations. Over five lakh school students of the State who will appear for the exams have started collecting their admit cards and giving final touches to their preparations.
On the other hand, arrangements at the 2,953 centres, where the examination will be conducted, are complete. The nodal centres have reportedly received the questions papers while the training of the teachers and centre superintendents for the exams has been completed.
"I am giving more emphasis to Mathematics and Science," said Subralene Das, a student.
"The questions papers have already arrived at the nodal centres and four policemen are guarding the centre," said Dayanidhi Mohapatra, teacher of Balasore Zilla school.
Controller of Examination of BSE, Nihar Ranjan Mohanty said "All preparations for the conduct of examinations are complete. If there are any issues, the Board has also made arrangements for the same."
The Odisha School and Mass Education department has taken up various initiatives for the smooth conduct of the examinations this year. For the first time, the Board has decided to send question papers from the nodal centres on the day of the examination itself contrary to earlier process.
After the examination question papers went viral last year, mobile phones have been banned from the exam centres. Even, the centre superintendents have been instructed not to use the mobile unless there is an emergency. Moreover, any illegal activity concerning the exams will be considered as cognizable and non-bailable offence.
This year, around 500 examination centres will be under CCTV camera surveillance while section 144 will be clamped at more than 200 sensitive centres.
Pradipta Mohapatra, principal secretary, School and Mass Education department said "For the first time, we have made arrangements for CCTV at a few sensitive centres and nodal centres. The question papers will be sent to the centres on the day of the examination itself."
Meanwhile, the School College Teachers and Employees United Forum have threatened to launch agitation a day ahead of the commencement of examinations.
Golak Nayak, convener of School College Teachers and Employees United Forum said "We are starting agitation tomorrow and have invited half of the teachers and staff from schools. We are going on a hunger strike from tomorrow protesting non-fulfillment of our demands."
