Odisha man on way to get married picked up by police

Angul: A man on his way to get married, embarrassingly, landed up at the police station after he was picked up by police on charges of being already married to another woman.

Hindol Police today picked up the man from his marriage procession while he was on his way to marry a girl from Majhika village of Angul district.

According to sources, the man identified as Abani Rout of Kasara village in Dhenkanal is allegedly married to a woman and despite his marital status; he was trying to get married again.

However, the woman claiming to be Abani’s wife, after getting information of his plans, filed a complaint at Hindol Police Station based on which police picked up the accused while he was on his way to the temple in Majhika village for marriage, sources added.

Meanwhile, the accused youth said that the woman who filed a complaint had forcibly married him.
“Earlier, I was forcibly married off to the woman. I have already registered my marriage with the girl and I was on my way to solemnize the same at a temple today,” Abani Rout said.

Social worker Shantilata Sahoo said “The woman said to us that a youth from Khasara village married her. I reported the incident at Hindol Police Station, but he continued to avoid us. Today, we received information about him getting married in Majhika village and we intercepted him with the help of police.”

Hindol Police Station IIC, Jugal Das said “Abani Rout was married with Aparajita around six-months ago and was staying with her. Aparajita reported that her husband was trying to marry again for dowry.”
