Odisha man kills mother suspecting her to be witch responsible for wife's miscarriage!

A disturbing incident shook a village on Thursday after a man allegedly killed his mother while under the influence of alcohol in Kalaraphulia village under Betanati police limits in Mayurbhanj district. Locals have accused the youth of being intoxicated at the time of the crime and have renewed demands to stop the sale of liquor in the village.

According to locals, the accused, identified as Tapan Singh, had been addicted to alcohol for a long time. Two months ago, his wife reportedly suffered a miscarriage. Following the incident, Tapan had begun suspecting his mother, Raimani Singh, accusing her of being a witch and blaming her for the loss of the unborn child.

In the morning, Tapan allegedly asked his mother for money to buy alcohol. When she refused, he reportedly brought a sharp weapon from inside the house and attacked her, leading to her death on the spot.

Villagers saw the elderly woman’s body lying on the veranda of Tapan’s house, and they informed the police. After receiving information, police along with a scientific team, reached the spot and began a probe. Villagers have demanded strict action against the accused and called for an immediate crackdown on illegal liquor sales in the village.

“We got the information in the morning that a man named Tapan Singh from Kalaraphulia village has killed his mother. Immediately, we reached the spot and found that the man had killed with the help of a sharp weapon,” Betanati IIC, Sasmita Mahanta, said.

“The accused man has been arrested, and a scientific team has already arrived at the spot and initiated a detailed probe into the alleged murder,” the IIC expressed.
