Keonjhar: In a unique attempt to build a dream home, Biswaranjan Samal, a businessman from Keonjhar and a nature lover has constructed a tree-top house in his own land at his native village- Naranpur.

Though yet to be fully furnished, the luxury house comprises an extraordinary drawing room, kitchen and a bathroom. With balconies on three sides, it has been built in such a way that any nature lover would yearn to stay, or own it or at least experience the delight.

Samal actually came across the pleasure of staying in tree-top houses during his foreign trips and then decided to have one back in his village.

The 20X20 ft house has been built on a gigantic Sal tree using thick wooden beams and plywood and nut bolts connected to six big branches of the tree.

The businessman says he wants the house to look more attractive than it is now, however, claiming that the idea behind construction of tree-top house is to create awareness against cutting of trees. “When I bought the land, there were already two big Sal trees here. I did not want to cut down the trees. I have a lot of interest in gardening. However, the main motive behind this was to set an example that houses can be constructed without damaging the nature.”

Lauded for the craftsmanship, Dolagobinda Maharana, the engineer who helped Samal said raising the beams was the most difficult phase during construction of the tree-top house. "We have used special nuts and the bearing has been done in such a way that even if branches move and bend in strong winds, it will not have any impact on the house. The pine wood used is light in weight, yet very strong," said Dolagobinda.
