Odisha man beats youth to death for ‘sexually assaulting’ daughter in Dhenkanal

A father allegedly beat a youth to death for allegedly ‘sexually assaulting’ his daughter at Akhuapala panchayat in Dadaraghati oupost area under Parjang police station in Dhenkanal district late Saturday night.

The accused reportedly surrendered himself before the police after committing the murder.

The deceased has been identified as Karunakar Behera, a resident of No. 1 Colony under Akhuapada panchayat in the district. The accused, Rupa Pingua, hails from Mohanpashi village under the same panchayat.

According to reports, Karunakar, the son of Kashinath Behera, had been working as a JCB helper in Mohanpashi village for the past three days. On the night of the incident, Rupa reportedly caught Karunakar ‘sexually assaulting’ his daughter. Enraged, Rupa attacked Karunakar with a deadly weapon, leading to his death.

However, sources said the girl and boy were reportedly in a relationship. Rupa lost cool after seeing Karunakar in a compromising position with his daughter and attacked him. However, police is yet to confirm the situation leading to the tragic murder.

After the murder, Rupa allegedly dumped the body near a canal in the village and then went to the Dadaraghati outpost, where he surrendered before the police.

Upon learning about the incident, the deceased’s father, Kashinath Behera, and other relatives rushed to Mohanpashi village. They alleged that Karunakar was brutally attacked and murdered and demanded strict action against the accused father. 

Police have recovered the body and initiated an investigation into the incident. The accused, Rupa Pingua, is being interrogated for further details regarding the crime.
