Odisha launches Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana in Ganjam Photograph: (OTV)
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday inaugurated the Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana during his day-long visit to Ganjam district. The scheme was formally launched at the Maa Taratarini shrine, one of the prominent religious sites in the region.
As part of the programme, the Chief Minister attended a mass marriage ceremony in which 200 couples were married collectively. Following the event, he was scheduled to offer prayers at the Maa Taratarini temple.
Ahead of the launch, the Chief Minister shared his views on social media, reiterating his government’s commitment to ensuring a dignified life for women. He said the newly launched scheme aims to reduce the financial burden of marriage on economically disadvantaged families.
“Protecting the interests of the people of Odisha and, in particular, providing a dignified life to women is the foremost resolve of our government. In this sequence, the auspicious launch of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana is taking place today. So that the issue of daughters' marriage does not remain a problem for parents of economically disadvantaged and scheduled caste-tribe families in particular.” the Chief Minister wrote.
The Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana has been designed to support parents from economically weaker sections, with special focus on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, ensuring that marriage does not become a financial hardship for their daughters.
