Odisha launches advanced caravan tourism service to enhance travel experience

Odisha has introduced an advanced caravan tourism service, offering tourists a new and comfortable way to explore the state while enjoying hotel-like amenities on wheels. The initiative is aimed at boosting tourism by providing a modern, flexible and premium travel experience across major destinations.

The second phase of the Caravan Tourism Service was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, with support from the Odisha Tourism Department. The service was formally flagged off from the Dhauli tourist area, a key heritage site near Bhubaneswar.

Each caravan is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including sleeping arrangements, attached toilets, a kitchen and other essential amenities, allowing tourists to experience the comfort of a star-category hotel while travelling. The service is designed to offer safe, convenient and self-contained accommodation, particularly for families and adventure travellers.

The caravan tourism initiative is being operated by Sand Pebbles Tour and Travels in partnership with the state government. The service will cover several of Odisha’s prominent tourist destinations, such as Hirakud, Debrigarh, Similipal, Chilika, Bhitarkanika, Satkosia and Deomali, enabling visitors to explore the state’s diverse natural, wildlife and heritage attractions.

Tourism officials said the project is expected to promote offbeat destinations, reduce travel fatigue, and encourage longer stays in the state. The initiative also aims to strengthen the local tourism economy by creating new opportunities in hospitality, transport and allied services.

With the launch of this modern caravan facility, Odisha hopes to attract more domestic and international tourists and position itself as a forward-looking and tourist-friendly destination offering innovative travel experiences.
