Baripada: Odisha Gramya Bank plans to open 500 new branches in 13 districts of the state to extend banking facilities in rural areas.
 
This was stated by General Manager of the bank, M K Patra while inaugurating a loan recovery and credit linkage mela here yesterday. Patra stressed the need for strong credit linkage to explore opportunities in goatery and poultry farming in Mayurbhanj district through women Self Help Groups (SHGs).
 
The beneficiaries, mostly women from SHGs, should avail such opportunities which would not only change their economic condition but also give them a decent living. About Rs 7.92 crore was recovered from 6237 loanees of 43 branches in Baripada zone.
 
P K Mohapatra, Regional Manager of the Baripada zone, presided over the function. A blood donation and eye testing camp was also organized on the occasion.
 
Among others, S K Das, AGM, NABARD and G C Murmu of Bank of India, the lead bank of OGB also attended the mela.
 
The Bank has adopted Badasole village under Baripada Block to contribute towards its allround development, the GM said.
