Odisha govt to build new collectorate buildings in all districts in major infrastructure push

The government of Odisha has approved a plan to build new, modern collectorate complexes in every district of the state. The decision has been taken as part of a sweeping governance infrastructure upgrade.

The decision has been taken as part of a sweeping governance infrastructure upgrade.

What’s Planned by Odisha Government:

The new facilities will include integrated sub-collector offices, aiming to streamline administrative work and improve public service delivery.

The state’s public works agency, Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC), has been asked to prepare detailed project plans and cost estimates. 

The collectorate buildings will follow a uniform design template, but their size will vary depending on the district’s population, workload, and available land.

District Categories and Building Sizes

Districts are grouped into three categories- large, medium and small- based on administrative load and population.

Large districts include Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Ganjam, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Puri and Keonjhar.

While Angul, Balasore, Khurda, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Jajpur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Bhadrak, Bargarh, Kendrapara, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Dhenkanal and Jagatsinghpur have been categorised as medium districts, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Gajapati, Boudh and Deogarh fall in the small districts category.

For large districts- Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Puri and Sambalpur, collectorate complexes of around 1.7 lakh sq ft are planned. 

Medium districts- Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Jajpur, Balangir, Khordha, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Bargarh and Koraput- will get buildings of about 1.4 lakh sq ft.

Small districts like Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Boudh, Sonepur, Deogarh and Gajapati will get structures of roughly 1 lakh sq ft.

Design & Facilities

The new collectorates will be located in central, accessible urban areas to facilitate public convenience.

Each complex will include basement parking, optimal floor-area usage, and comply fully with applicable building regulations.

An additional floor will be added to house the headquarters-level sub-collector’s office and other key administrative offices, enhancing the structure's functionality and efficiency.
