Odisha govt only ‘announcement-oriented’, alleges Dharmendra

Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday billed the Odisha government as ‘announcement-oriented’ and criticised the Chief Minister for reading out whatever is prepared by officials.

“He does not understand the implications of what he is saying.  He simply reads out whatever is given to him in writing,” said Pradhan reacting to a question on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s announcement to enhance health cover assistance for women under the ‘Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana’

Replying to a query on the State government’s opposition to the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme, Pradhan further stated, “The Chief Minister might have differences with the Prime Minister. But he should not do injustice to people of Odisha by opposing the Centre’s health scheme.”

“Utkala and Kalinga are cultural names of Odisha.”It’s unfortunate for a minister of the ruling party to create a controversy on the same,” said Pradhan in response to a query on the Bande Utkala row. Earlier, Labour and Energy Minister Sushant Singh had suggested toreplace Utkal with Odisha in ‘Bande Utkal Janani’ song.
