Odisha Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj
The Odisha government has initiated a state-wide drive to clear encroachments from college land, informed Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.
Speaking on the issue, the Minister stated that several colleges across the state, including institutions in Bhadrak, continue to face encroachment challenges. He noted that reclaiming these lands is essential for improving the academic environment and ensuring that educational institutions function without external disturbances.
Referring specifically to Bhadrak Women’s College, the Minister said, “Earlier, many antisocial elements used to roam freely in Bhadrak Women’s College. After the present government assumed office, such activities were curbed.”
The Minister further said that numerous colleges in Odisha remain affected by encroachment, which has created long-standing administrative and security concerns.
“District Collectors have been instructed to free all college land from encroachment,” he emphasised, reiterating that the directive aims to restore proper utilisation of institutional spaces.
According to the department, the action is part of a broader effort to strengthen higher education infrastructure and address issues that have hindered institutions for years. The government expects the collectors to carry out detailed assessments, initiate necessary eviction procedures in accordance with law, and ensure that reclaimed land is secured to prevent future encroachments.
