Odisha govt announces promotion of senior IPS officers

The Odisha government on Tuesday announced the promotion of several senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to higher ranks under the IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016, effective from January 1, 2026.

General Administration and Public Grievance Department of the Odisha Government issued notifications in this regard.

Senior IPS officer S. Shyni has been promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police.

"In pursuance of rule 3 of the IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016, Smt. Shyni S, IPS (RR-2001) is promoted to the grade of Addl. DG of Police in IPS in Level-15 of Pay Matrix with effect from 01.01.2026 and is posted in-situ, until further orders," read a notification.

Similarly, IPS officer Soorya Thankappan, who is currently on central deputation, has also been promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police.

"In pursuance of sub-rule (5) of rule 8 of IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016, Dr. Soorya Thankappan, IPS (RR-2001) who is on Central Deputation, is allowed proforma promotion to the grade of Addl. DG of police in IPS in Level-15 of Pay Matrix," the notification read.

IPS officers Satyajit Naik and Umashankar Dash have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IG).

"In pursuance of rule 3 of the IPS (Pay)Rules, 2016, Satyajit Naik and Umashankar Dash are promoted to the grade of IG of Police in IPS in Level-14 of Pay Matrix with effect from 01.01.2026 and are posted in-situ, until further orders," read a notification.

IPS officer R. Prakash, presently serving on central deputation, has also been elevated to the IG rank.

"In pursuance of sub-rule (5) of rule 8 of IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016, Shri Prakash R., IPS (RR-2008), who is on Central Deputatio,n is allowed proforma promotion to the grade of IG of Police in IPS in Level-14 of Pay Matrix," the notification read.

In addition, IPS officers M S Sampath and Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra have been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).

"In pursuance of rule 3 of the IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016, Shri Madkar Sandeep Sampat, IPS (RR-2012), is promoted to the grade of DIG of Police in IPS in Level-13A of Pay Matrix with effect from 01.01.2026 and is posted in-situ, until further orders. In pursuance of sub-rule (5) of rule 8 of IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016, Shri Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, IPS (RR-2012), who is on Central Deputation, is allowed proforma promotion to the grade of DIG of police in IPS in Level-13A of Pay Matrix," read another notification.

Officers of the 2013 batch, including Jagmohan Meena, Parmar Smit Parshottamdas, and Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, have been promoted to the Selection Grade in Level-13 of the Pay Matrix. Rahul P. R., Anupama James, and L. Divya V, who are on Central Deputation, have been accorded proforma promotions to the selection Grade in IPS in Level-13 of Pay Matrix.

Officers of the 2017 batch, Swathy S. Kumar, Siddharth Kataria and Prahlad Sahai Meena have been promoted to the Junior Administrative Grade in IPS in Level-12 of Pay Matrix.
