In a move aimed at strengthening early childhood care and education, the Odisha government has increased the allocation for uniforms and footwear provided to children enrolled at Anganwadi centres under the Malati Devi Pre-School Scheme.
According to official sources, the revised allocation will result in higher government spending on uniforms and footwear, enabling Anganwadi children to receive more durable and comfortable clothing. The enhancement has been introduced in view of rising costs and the need to maintain quality standards for children’s apparel.
As per the revised rates, the allocation for boys’ uniforms has been increased from Rs 100 to Rs 175, while the amount earmarked for girls’ uniforms has been raised from Rs 150 to Rs 250. The allocation for footwear has also been enhanced, with the cost of shoes increased from Rs 100 to Rs 150 per child.
The decision is part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen pre-school education and improve facilities under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework. Officials said upgrading basic amenities such as uniforms and footwear is expected to promote regular attendance, improve the learning environment, and support the overall well-being of Anganwadi children.
