Odisha government failed to address farmers' issues: Pradhan

Bargarh: As the farmers' issue continues to take the centre stage and proved to be a deciding factor in the recent Assembly elections in neighbouring States, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today came down heavily on the ruling-BJD government and accused it neglecting farmers.

"Farmers in our State are not able to get water for their crops and are forced to move outside in search of livelihood. Instead of looking into the matter, the State government is more concerned about inviting singers and dancers from Mumbai," Pradhan said while addressing BJP's Jan Sampark Padayatra in Padampur of Bargarh district today.

"The state government has earned the tag of number one in hoodwinking people through its schemes and policies," said Pradhan adding that the government here has failed to implement the much hyped Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System for the benefit of farmers in Bargarh.

The Central government is providing everything from Railways to ensuring piped gas connection to people across the state. But depsite being in power for last 19 years, Naveen babu is not able to provide drinking water and irrigation facilities to the people in Odisha, alleged Pradhan.

Responding to Pradhan's allegations, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra termed Union Minister's comments are unfortunate. "It seems Pradhan is not able to see the kind of developments that are happening in the State. We think farmers can better describe him the reality what kind of facilities they are being provided with," Patra said.
