Odisha Girls Harassed, Tortured And Forced To Clean Toilets In Hyderabad Hospital

Titlgarh: As many as twelve girls from Saintala block under Titlagarh Sub-Division of Bolangir district were allegedly subjected to harassment and torture in Hyderabad. All the girls had got job offer at a hospital in Hyderabad after completing government’s skill development programme in the State.

The matter came to light after the girls reached Odisha and lodged a complaint with the officials of Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS).

As per reports, the girls underwent training in Upasana Training Centre in Khurda and were given placements in a hospital in Hyderabad. However, they were made to clean toilets at the hospital and were forced to work as labourers, alleged the girls.

The girls were also engaged as security guards during the night. The girls were allegedly thrashed when they started to oppose such harassment, added the girls adding that they managed to escape from the hospital with the help of a local youth.

“We took the training in Khurda and the initial placement was in Bhubaneswar. Later, we were sent to Hyderabad. They (employers) took our mobile phones and a woman named Padma Aunty also used to thrash us,” said a complainant.

Saintala Block Project Co-ordinator of ORMAS, Madhusmita Biswal, Saintala said, “The girls were sent to Upsana Training Centre for the placement linked skill-training for three months under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) scheme. Later, they were provided jobs in the private sector. They have given us a written complaint and an inquiry will be conducted in this regard.”
