Bhubaneswar: A 25-year-old girl from Odisha was grievously injured and is undergoing treatment at a hospital after being shot at by a software engineer in Bengaluru over suspected one-sided love affair.

The victim, Subhashree Priyadarshini, was shot at by one Amarendra Patnaik (33), who also hails from Odisha. The incident took place on Tuesday at around 6 PM in front of a ladies hostel in Munnekolala under Marathahalli Police Station in Bengaluru where the victim was residing.

According to police, the accused was known to the girl and shot her using a 7.65 mm country-made pistol. He reportedly attempted suicide after committing the crime.

As per reports, the victim is undergoing treatment in a private hospital and her condition is stated to be stable. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

On the other hand, the police found the accused grievously injured and in an unconscious state near Marathahalli Bridge on Outer Ring Road at 2.30 AM. He has been admitted to Sakra hospital.

The doctors attending the accused said that he has accident related injuries as well as self-inflicted injuries on his neck. His condition is stated to be critical.

The police also recovered a 17-page notebook suspected to be that of the accused and the weapon used in the crime.

As per police sources, the last page of the notebook reads like a death note and indicates the accused’s last wish. Therefore, prima facie, it looks like that he may have attempted suicide after shooting the victim, police said.

“Further investigation is being done to ascertain what exactly happened and the motive,” police added.
