Bhubaneswar: With an aim to promote afforestation, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 5933.98 crore to Odisha under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) programme. This was announced by Union Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar in a tweet.

Javadekar handed over the cheque to Odisha Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh after a meeting of Forest ministers of different States on Thursday in New Delhi.


The Centre handed over Rs 47,436 crore of CAMPA funds to various states including Odisha for more afforestation and achieving green objectives of the country.

“The CAMPA fund cannot be utilised for providing salary, bear expenses on account of vehicles and guest house. The fund must be utilised directly for afforestation,” the Union Minister said.

He further said, “I have urged all states, who have received the CAMPA funds today, to utilize it as per the provisions of the Compensatory Afforestation Funds Rules & not to reduce the State Govt's regular Budgetary allocations for Forest.”

Apart from Odisha, Chhattisgarh received Rs 5791.70 crore, Madhya Pradesh Rs 5196.69 crore, Jharkhand Rs 4158.02 crore and Maharashtra Rs 3844.24 crore.
