Odisha has begun to experience the first touch of winter, especially the hilly district of Koraput, marking a seasonal shift in southern parts of the state. Until recently, only a mild chill was felt during the early mornings and late evenings, especially before the cyclone alert.
However, over the past two days, temperatures have dropped further, accompanied by dense morning fog in several areas, including Narayanpatna, Laxmipur, and Semiliguda.
With the cold winds sweeping through the valleys, locals have started pulling out their sweaters and shawls. Early risers can be seen gathering at roadside tea stalls, seeking warmth from steaming cups of tea.

The winter chill has also added to the scenic beauty of the region, as fog covers the green hilltops and morning sunlight filters through the mist.
Speaking to OTV, residents of Narayanpatna shared that they are enjoying the seasonal change after weeks of humid weather.
“The cold wave has set in after the cyclone Montha. It has been very cold for the last two days. Forests and mountains are covered with fog and dew. It feels nice and relieved as we gather here at tea stalls,” stated a local.
Likewise, another local said, “It is very cold since the last two to three days after the rain. There is fog everywhere until 6.30am.”
Farmers, however, expressed mixed feelings, noting that while the cool weather is pleasant, an early drop in temperature could affect standing crops if cold intensifies too soon.
