Odisha farmer Hirod Patel finds special mention in PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Odisha’s young farmer Hirod Patel during the 131st episode of Mann Ki Baat, describing his journey as inspiring and transformative. Highlighting his innovative approach to agriculture, the Prime Minister said Hirod’s story reflects how fresh thinking can bring positive change to the farming sector.
Speaking during the programme, PM Modi noted that until about eight years ago, Hirod cultivated paddy in the traditional manner alongside his father, Shiv Shankar Patel. However, he later began to approach farming with a new perspective, leading to notable progress and profitability.
From Traditional to Innovative Farming
According to the Prime Minister, Hirod drew inspiration from his father while gradually transforming his agricultural practices. Moving beyond conventional paddy cultivation, he diversified into banana and fish farming as well.
PM Modi said that today, he combines paddy cultivation with vine vegetables grown on a net over his pond, fruit trees like banana, guava and coconut around it, and fish farming in the pond.
He further stated that this integrated approach optimises land use, conserves water, and boosts income and that farmers from across the region now visit to learn from his model.
