Odisha Farmer Commits ‘Suicide Over Debt Burden’

Sambalpur: A farmer, who allegedly attempted suicide over debt burden, died today while undergoing treatment at a private nursing home in Sambalpur.

As per reports, the farmer Abdhoot Pradhan, a resident of Khairmal village under Jujomura block of the district, was admitted to the nursing home on August 28 in critical condition.

Family members of the deceased have claimed that after failing to repay the loan he took for farming, he attempted suicide following which he was first admitted to Sadar hospital and was later shifted to Burla hospital. As ICU facility was not available, Abdhoot was brought to the nursing home where he died while undergoing treatment.

After getting information about the incident, Town Police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post mortem.

“My father consumed some poisonous substance as he was under pressure due to financial burden,” said son of the deceased, Manoj Pradhan.
