Bhadrak: Tension erupted at a private nursing home in the district on Thursday after family members of a deceased woman created ruckus inside the hospital premises alleging negligence behind her death.

As per reports, Swarnalata, a resident of Kolatha village of Jajpur district was admitted to the nursing home on Wednesday for a minor operation. The patient had reportedly undergone overall health checkup before the surgery but for reasons unknown, she was declared dead during the operation.

Informing about the incident, Swarnalata's brother Balaram Sahoo said, "We admitted her at the nursing home in the morning and the doctor informed us to conduct her operation at around 11:00 pm but in the evening, all of a sudden, he took her for the surgery at 5:00 pm. Later at around 6: 30 pm we were informed that she had died."

Following the incident, Balaram alleged that the doctors had neglected treatment demanding more money. However, the concerned surgeon has refuted any such charges.

"The operation was undergoing smoothly and we had given the required medicines. Suddenly the saturation level started decreasing. The patient died due to cardiac arrest though we tried our best to recover her," informed Pravat Nayak, surgeon in-charge of the patient.

"It was a minor operation which requires less time. The patient was unable to recover from the anesthesia and as we monitored the saturation, it was continuously degrading. Senior doctors and the entire team gave their best efforts to recover the patient from the condition but failed," said another doctor Sudhir Nayak.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased woman have demanded a probe into the matter. The Town Police have initiated an investigation based on a complaint by the kin of the woman.
