Bhubaneswar: As Odisha government has undertaken a drive to weed out ineligible beneficiaries from the KALIA scheme, today it increased the deadline for verification and scrutiny of beneficiaries listed under the scheme.
Earlier, the last date for verification was August 9 which has now been extended to August 27, informed Agriculture Minister Arun Sahoo. Out of 52 lakh beneficiaries, verification of 13 lakh beneficiaries has been done so far.
The verification will be conducted at panchayat, block and district levels. After the process is over, ineligible beneficiaries will not receive any further direct cash transfers under the KALIA scheme.
The Agriculture Minister added that some ineligible beneficiaries even want to return the money received under the KALIA scheme.
"Till now, verification of 13 lakh beneficiaries has been done. As the process is getting delayed we have extended the deadline to August 27," Sahoo said.
" The real farmers are not getting the assistance under the scheme, but those, who are not farmers are receiving the money. Even the money received under the KALIA scheme is not adequate," said a farmer of Balia gram panchayat in Balasore district.
"There are reports that lesser number of farmers in seven gram panchayats have received the money. Application forms have been made available at the panchayt offices for the farmers to get their names enrolled. They can also add their names online," said Kailash Chandra Parida, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Balasore.
