Bhubaneswar: Amid reports of sexual abuse in shelter homes in Bihar's Muzaffarpur and Uttar Pradesh's Deorio, Odisha police has now geared up to keep vigil and conduct a detailed verification of several child care institutions across the State.

Director General of Police, RP Sharma today instructed superintendents of police and deputy commissioners of police of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for a through verification of child care institutions in their respective jurisdictions.

As per the directions, the senior police officials have been asked to constitute a special team comprising officers of Investigative Unit on Crimes against Women (IUCAW), Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (IAHTU), Special Juvenile Police Unit and lady officers.

The special teams have been asked to conduct verification of shelter homes on a priority basis and submit a detailed report after collecting information about existing staff and details of inmates and owners.

The team has been asked to review safety measures like boundary walls, CCTV cameras, functions organized as well as persons frequently visiting the centres.
