Bhubaneswar: A police constable deployed at the State-level Republic Day parade in Bhubaneswar today has come under scanner for handing over his AK-47 gun to a girl.

Although the identity of the constable is yet to be ascertained, Commissionerate Police has clarified that he belongs to the 6th Battalion, Cuttack.

The matter came to light after a video showing the constable handing over his rifle to a girl went viral on social media. In the video clip, the cop was seen speaking to the girl standing nearby and later allowing her to hold the weapon.

Meanwhile, a probe has been initiated in this connection to ascertain the circumstances under which the police constable handed over the weapon to the girl.

Twin-City Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said "The action of the cop is against the rules. A probe into the incident is underway and action will be taken against the concerned official accordingly."
