Odisha Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik summoned by Delhi Police EOW
New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar: In a major embarrassment for Odisha Congress ahead of AICC President Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit tomorrow, Odisha PCC chief Niranjan Patnaik was summoned by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police today. A notice under section 91 of CrPC was served to Patnaik and his son Navajyoti Patnaik in this regard.
As per sources, EOW is investigating a fraud case based on the complaint filed by one Kamaljeet Singh Ahluwalia against Vavasi Telecom Pvt Ltd and Farid Arifuddin and Mrs Gargi. An amount of Rs 32 crore was allegedly paid by Ahluwalia to the company during the financial year 2007-08 and he alleged that the amount was fraudulently taken through forgery and dishonouring a cheque.
During 2007-08, when the transaction took place, both Niranjan Patnaik and his son Navajyoti were the directors of the company. The company has given in writing that Navajyoti has misappropriated Rs 6 crore out of the Rs 32 crore that Ahluwalia gave when he was the director of the company.
PCC chief Niranjan Patnaik on the other hand stated that he has not received the notice and will cooperate if Delhi Police seeks any information from him.
“I have not received any notice but will cooperate if police seek any information. I was the director of the company, but I have resigned long back,” said Patnaik.
